A long time ago I saw a video on automatic drawing/art meditation. I actually never did any of this and wasn’t super interested but Diego (husband, check his thingies here) is taking an art history class and once they hit surrealism he got hanged on it, and started doing some automatic drawing himself and has been asking me to do some. By the way, I don’t know why he hasn’t uploaded his automatic drawing yet, but he’s working on that a lot lately — it’s weird, it’s gory, its fleshy… hah! I’m sure he’ll upload soon!
Anyway..so today he asked me to draw next to him and I took my no fear sketchbook (it’s a sketchbook I literally called that and I use ink or pen or whatever to throw in some drawings where I step away from perfection and erasers and do-overs. Maybe one day I’ll get a sketchbook tour video once it’s full. (Little secret tho: I’m slow, I don’t draw as much as I want to)
To be honest, I wasn’t too inclined to try. I’ve been feeling a little bit burned out with work and responsibilities, but after I started, I really let go (at least for a moment) and meditation hit in. It was pretty cool. Prepared my inkpen, listened to Opeth on shuffle, and I just closed my eyes for the first seconds, just feeling the music as the song moved forward. After that I kept alternating the feeling with the seeing and started adding some shapes and played with it as the pen slipped.
So here goes that little experiment. What do you see?
